The Paris 2024 Closing Ceremony began with French swimming icon Leon Marchand extinguishing the Olympic cauldron and ended with Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise jumping out of a plane with the Olympic flag as Red Hot Chilli Peppers played in an iconic handover to the LA28 Olympics!
The Parade of Nations allowed the athletes, who have worked their entire lives for the results of the last two weeks, to soak in the moment. The Indian contingent was led by Manu Bhaker and PR Sreejesh as the co-torch-bearers.
The Stade de France glittered in lights and colour as over 78,000 people were treated to a show of fireworks, art, dance and music. Phoenix and Kavinsky performed in the stadium while International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach and the President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee Tony Estanguet gave out speeches.
Tom Cruise, Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, Billie Eilish, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and H.E.R performed following the handover to LA28 to only raise our expectations for the 34th edition of the Summer Games. Los Angeles, hosting the Olympics for the third time in history, will be adding its share of glitz and glam to the Olympics in 2028!
The Olympic flame is extinguished
IOC President Thomas Bach, accompanied by the athletes and French swimmer Leon Marchand, extinguishes the Olympic flame before declaring the 33rd Summer Games officially closed.
Cricket lovers, enjoy
Now is a good time to remind fans in India that cricket will feature at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. It will be played in the T20 format. The sport returns to the Summer Games after 128 years following its only appearance at the 1900 Olympics.
Snoop Dogg presents 'The Next Episode' and we can't forget about Dre either
Snoop Dogg, who has been such a prominent feature at the Paris 2024 Olympics, is also at Venice Beach, Los Angeles with Dr Dre to light up the stage on fire.
Snoop Dogg and his contemporaries including Dr. Dre, that made up the Southern California rap scene in the early 1990s, cemented Los Angeles as a leading city contributing to global hip hop culture.
Billie Eilish sings 'Birds of a Feather'
Grammy Award-winning artist Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas are also at the beach and they perform the hit song "Birds of a Feather"!
At 22 years old, Billie Eilish is a nine-time Grammy winner and has won the Academy Award and Golden Globe awards twice each. The second single from her third album Hit Me Hard and Soft, "Birds of a Feather" proved to be a chart-topper in several countries.

Olympics Closing Ceremony: Tom Cruise is in the house!
Hollywood titan Tom Cruise rappeled down from the top of the Stade de France, of course he did as H.E.R welcomed him to the Paris 2024 Closing Ceremony with the theme from Mission: Impossible.

Cruise also adds the Olympic rings to the Hollywood Sign on Mount Lee.
The Olympic Handover ceremony gets underway
The Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo and the President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee Tony Estanguet hand over the Olympic flag to IOC President Thomas Bach. He entrusts the flag to the Mayor of Los Angeles Karen Bass who is accompanied by 11-time Olympic medallist Simone Biles. The American gymnast won three gold medals and a silver medal at Paris 2024.
In 2028, Los Angeles will host the Summer Games for the third time, just like Paris did in 2024. The city had previously hosted the 1932 and 1984 Olympics.
Emmy Award-winning artist H.E.R performs the US National Anthem.
IOC President Thomas Bach officially closes the Paris 2024 Olympics
"Thank you Paris, thank you France! Long live the Olympic Games! Long live France!" said the International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach at the Closing Ceremony.
"And now, with my heart full of emotions, I have to perform one more task: I declare the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad Paris 2024 closed. In accordance with tradition, I call upon the youth of the world to assemble four years from now in Los Angeles, United States of America, to celebrate with all of us the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad."
His address is followed by the Olympic anthem as the Olympic flag is lowered.

The Olympic rings are lifted into the night sky
Fireworks light up the Parisian night sky as the Golden Voyager unearths the Olympic rings which are subsequently lifted into the night sky. Created by Pierre de Coubertin, the five interlaced rings of equal dimensions represent the union of the five continents
The Golden Voyager arrives to unearth the Olympics
The Golden Voyager descends into the Stadium as a light show takes place during the Closing Ceremony. The show envisions a distant future where the Olympic Games have disappeared again.
A Golden Voyager from another time and place, a character inspired by the world of science fiction, arrives at the centre of the stadium and explores a world where Olympic Games were once celebrated.
Following in the footsteps of Pierre de Coubertin, he unearths the vestiges of past Olympic Games in order to bring them back to life. Over the course of the show, we discover several symbols that marked the founding of the Games and the values of unity and peace that they convey. Once rediscovered and revived by the Golden Voyager and his companions, the Olympic Games will be lifted into the sky as the greatest human monument.
Women's marathon medallists felicitated at the Closing Ceremony
The women's marathon medal presentation ceremony is taking place. International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach and World Athletics president Sebastian Coe felicitate bronze medalist Hellen Obiri of Kenya, silver medallist Tigst Assefa of Ethiopia and Olympic champion Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands.
Sifan Hassan also won two bronze medals in women's 5000m and women's 10,000m before taking the gold in the women's marathon at Paris 2024.
Music unites the athletes of the world
Athletes from Algeria, Bermuda, Great Britain, Tunisia and The Netherlands sing along to Queen's "We are the Champions" at the Paris 2024 Closing Ceremony.
The Parade of Nations begins
The Parade of Nations begins with the flag-bearers of the IOC Refugee Olympic Team and France leading the way.
Manu Bhaker and PR Sreejesh make their way carrying the Indian flag at the Paris 2024 Closing Ceremony.
Manu Bhaker won bronze medals in women's 10m air pistol as well as the mixed team event along with Sarabjot Singh.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper PR Sreejesh led the Indian hockey team to another bronze medal, beating Spain in the bronze medal match. It was the second consecutive bronze medal for the men's hockey team after Tokyo 2020, earning consecutive medals for the first time since 1972. It was also Sreejesh's last Olympic appearance.
The action switches to the Stade de France
The Paris 2024 Olympics Closing Ceremony moves to the Stade de France. Initially built for the 1998 FIFA World Cup, it has been the venue for several track and field athletics events during the Games.
The remainder of the ceremony will be held inside the stadium while the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony took place on the River Seine.
Leon Marchand carries the Olympic flame to Stade de France
Leon Marchand of France became a household name worldwide following his heroics in the pool at Paris 2024. The 22-year-old Marchand won four gold medals and a bronze at the Summer Games. He is only the sixth swimmer in Olympic history to win four individual gold medals at the same Games.
He has been tasked with extinguishing the Olympic cauldron in Paris. Marchand is carrying the Olympic flame in a lantern to the Stade de France where the Closing Ceremony will be held.

Parade of Nations to headline Olympics Closing Ceremony
The Parade of Nations will be the highlight of the Closing Ceremony at Paris 2024. Ace shooter Manu Bhaker and PR Sreejesh will be the co-flag-bearers for India at the Stade de France.
Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and table tennis veteran Sharath Kamal were the co-flag-bearers during the Opening Ceremony which took place on the Seine river on July 26.

Over two weeks of sporting extravaganza is finally coming to a close as the curtains will be drawn on the 33rd edition of the Summer Games. The Paris 2024 Games featured 329 events across 32 sports.
The USA topped the medals tally with 40 gold medals and 44 silvers. The People’s Republic of China too bagged 40 golds but only 27 silvers. India finished the Paris 2024 Olympics with six medals - a silver and five bronze.
Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal for India while Manu Bhaker won two bronze medals, one with Sarabjot Singh in the mixed team event, Swapnil Kusale, Aman Sehrawat and the Indian hockey team were the other bronze winners.
