Paris 2024 Olympics badminton, India schedule: PV Sindhu, Chirag-Satwik headline joint-largest contingent
Seven Indian badminton players, including two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and former world No. 1 men’s doubles duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty, will take the court at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
It will be India’s joint-largest badminton squad at the Olympic Summer Games, level with Rio 2016.
Badminton competitions at Paris 2024 will start on July 27 and run till August 5. Three medals will be on offer in each of the five different events - men’s and women's singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
A total of 172 top shuttlers from around the world will be in action at the La Chapelle Arena during Paris 2024.
HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen will constitute India’s dual challenge in men’s singles while Sindhu is the lone entry in women’s singles.
Asian Games gold medallists Satwik-Chirag will be competing in men’s doubles while Tanisha Crasto/Ashwini Ponnappa will be involved in the women’s doubles competition. India have no teams in the mixed doubles event.
All events will start with round-robin group stages before the knockout rounds. In doubles, the top two from each group will make the quarter-finals while only the group winners will advance in singles competitions.

Satwiksairaj and Chirag are the third seeds in men’s doubles while HS Prannoy is the 13th-seeded player in the Paris 2024 men’s singles competition. Sindhu is seeded 10th in women’s singles while the remaining Indian players are unseeded.
Since the sport made its Olympic debut at Barcelona 1992, India have won three medals in badminton courtesy PV Sindhu (silver at Rio 2016 and bronze at Tokyo 2020) and Saina Nehwal (bronze at London 2012). All three have come in women’s singles.
