After a qualifying race spanning 52 weeks, it’s time to get this show on the road.

A total of 173 players are set to contest the Olympic Games Paris 2024 badminton competition from 27 July to 5 August at the sparkling new Porte de La Chapelle Arena.

Across the sport’s five disciplines - singles and doubles in both gender plus mixed doubles - the group stage will be followed by the knockout phase. Seeds are based on the BWF world rankings dated 9 July.

In singles, each group winner will advance to the round of 16. In doubles, the top two from each group go through to the quarter-finals where they will be redrawn.

The five finals will be played over the last four days of the 10-day competition.

Below, we take a look at the key players to watch out for, as well as a full schedule and how to watch the action live.

Of those who topped the podium three years ago at Tokyo 2020, both singles champions - Viktor Axelsen of Denmark and Chen Yufei of the People’s Republic of China - return for their title defense.

With the retirement of former world No. 1 and world champion Momota Kento and reigning silver medallist Chen Long, the playing field has leveled out beyond Axelsen and Chen. Shi Yuqi has unseated Axelsen as the world’s top-ranked male shuttler but anyone in the top 10 has a shot at gold.

The same could be said for the women with world No. 1 An Seyoung of the Republic of Korea hungry to dethrone Chen. Don’t count out Chinese Taipei’s Tokyo 2020 runner-up Tai Tzu-ying, a resurgent Rio 2016 gold medallist Carolina Marin and Yamaguchi Akane, the one-time No. 1 who is far better than her No. 5 ranking if she has put her recent injuries behind her.

On the doubles side however, the women’s and mixed gold medallists Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu and Wang Yilyu/Huang Dongping, respectively, have been dissolved while men’s champions Lee Yang/Wang Chi-lin are a shade of their form from the previous Games.

In all likelihood, we should see a changing of the guard in the three pairs events with a potential Chinese sweep - Liang Weikeng/Wang Chang (M), Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan (W) and Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong (MD).
