Paris 2024 Olympics Australia schedule today, July 25: Matildas start campaign vs Germany
The Australian women’s football team will be in focus on July 25, Thursday, as the Matildas open their Paris 2024 Olympics campaign against the mighty Germany at the Marseille Stadium.
Ranked 12th in the world, the Matildas are looking for their maiden Olympic medal after coming agonisingly close at Tokyo 2020.
Drawn in a tight Group B which also features former champions Germany and the United States, Tony Gustavsson’s charges will have their work cut out for them.
A positive result against world No. 4 Germany, gold medallists from Rio 2016 and three-time world champions, will be no easy task but can give the Matildas a big boost and a way out of the tough group.
Aussie archers Laura Paeglis and Peter Boukouvalas will also take aim in the archery events at Les Invalides today with the crucial ranking rounds on the agenda.
Performances on the day will not decide more than their seedings for the individual events.
If the duo’s combined scores can place them in the top 16 among the mixed teams, Australia will also get the opportunity to compete in an additional medal event at Paris 2024.
Also in action will be the Australian men’s rugby sevens team. With back-to-back wins over Samoa and Kenya, the Aussies have already confirmed a place in the quarter-finals but will be facing Tokyo 2020 bronze medal winners Argentina in their final Group B game before their top eight clash later in the day.
