Tokyo 2020 Olympic time trial champion Primoz Roglic will join Bora-hansgrohe from 2024 on after having spent eight seasons with Jumbo-Visma.

The German cycling team officially confirmed the move in a press conference on Friday (6 October).

Before the Giro dell'Emilia last Saturday, Roglic revealed that he would leave his current team, despite having another year left on his contract.

Rumours linked the 2023 Giro d’Italia winner to Movistar, Ineos Grenadiers and Lidl-Trek, but it was eventually Bora-hansgrohe who secured the 33-year-old Slovenian’s services.

“I am looking forward to this step, even though a team change is kind of like new territory for me,” Roglic sais in a press release from the team.

“The good memories of when we met years ago made the talks easy. But the decisive factor was that the team is really motivated to work with me, and that we hold the same ideas."

Bora-hansgrohe do not mention the length of the contract, just that it is "from the coming season and onwards".

Team manager at Bora-hansgrohe Ralph Denk confirmed that Roglic has signed a deal "for more than one year" without disclosing the exact duration of the contract.

Roglic will become teammates with 2022 Giro d'Italia winner Jai Hindley and the promising Belgian Grand Tour talent Cian Uijtdebroeks.

“Eight years ago, Primoz almost joined us as a neo-pro. Now he comes to us as a pro with a long list of victories that very few others have achieved," Denk said.

"For us, the decisive factor was not what has been achieved, but what lies ahead. Together we want to leave our mark on the big races. Primoz appreciates the strength of our squad and knows the great potential of his future teammates. I am convinced that his personality will inspire the entire team, because he is a leader with the will to win and is also a team player at the same time.”

Roglic has won Olympic time trial gold at the Tokyo 2020 Games, the Giro d'Italia and three times the Vuelta a España.
