Earlier this year, Olympic champion Carissa Moore announced that Paris 2024 would be her last surfing competition as a professional.

A new journey would await the history-maker, who became the Games’ first-ever gold medallist in this event at Tokyo 2020 in 2021.

On Thursday (22 August), Moore and her husband Luke Untermann shared the news that they are expecting their first child.

“Excited to catch the best wave of our lives… the swell arrives February 2025 💛,” she wrote on Instagram.

It means that, as far as competing in the Paris Olympic competition in Tahiti goes, Moore was not surfing solo.

“Don’t be afraid to go into it fearlessly and don’t be afraid to fail,” the Hawaii native said after her exit in Tahiti.

“I feel like there’s been a lot of personal growth in and out of the water, and I’m really proud of my backside riding. I caught some waves I never thought I would’ve ever caught in my life.

“I couldn’t have imagined a better place to finish off my career.”

The American is a five-time world champion, and three years ago became the first-ever surfer to win the WSL Championship Tour title and Olympic gold in the same year.

Moore, who turns 32 next week, says she is ‘leaving the door open’ for special events here and there, but now is the time for her to enjoy a break.
