Tokyo 2020 Olympic all-around gymnastics champion Sunisa Lee said Wednesday (12 July) that she's looking forward to returning to competition but that the kidney-related health issues that cut her sophomore season at Auburn University short are still affecting her.

"Definitely a lil nerv, past couple of months have been.. A LOT. still in & out of gym due to my kidneys but soo excited to get back out there!" Lee wrote in an Instagram story Q&A, responding to a question about her feelings about returning to competition.

Later, when asked if she planned to perform in the all-around during this Olympic cycle, Lee said, "not sure yet, i haven't been able to get back fully. just taking it day by day :)"

Lee, 20, missed the last two months of the NCAA competitive season due to illness, but USA Gymnastics announced in late June that she has registered to compete at 5 August's U.S. Classic in the Chicagoland area.

The 2019 world team gold medallist has not competed in elite-level gymnastics since winning all-around gold, team silver and uneven bars bronze at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
