Sarah Tetzlaff and Julian David delivered clinical final performances to win the Paris 2024 Olympic qualifier on Sunday, 26 November.

New Zealand speed climbers Julian David and Sarah Tetzlaff secured quota spots for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games* by winning the men's and women's titles respectively at the IFSC Sport Climbing Oceania Qualifier 2023 in Melbourne on Sunday (26 November), live on Olympic Channel.

18-year-old David clinched men's speed victory in dramatic fashion after Hayden Barton of Australia, who had been the quickest through the quarter and semi-finals slipped midway up the wall in the final.

Sensing the win, the Kiwi celebrated before hitting the timer but quickly stopped as a chasing Barton appeared at his heels. David's winning final time was 6.77 seconds.

Tetzlaff (8.54 seconds) took the win and the single quota spot on offer in the women's speed competition after capitalising on a late mistake by Australia's Grace Crowley (8.88).

Crowley had been leading until appearing to misstep on the last grip of the wall, allowing a surging 2018 Youth Olympic Games competitor Tetzlaff to overtake for the victory.

The Boulder and Lead titles and quota spots were decided on Saturday, with Australia picking up the men's and women's titles.
