An Olympic and world champion, Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is a bonafide sporting superstar.
Not only has Neeraj Chopra firmly established himself as an iconic figure in Indian track and field but the double Olympic medal winner has also earned his reputation as one of the best, if not the best, in his sport in global athletics.
Neeraj Chopra’s results on the field has been a big contributor behind the success.
The Haryana-born Indian athlete has already won every major honour he can possibly win in his sport, including gold medals at the Olympics, World Athletics Championships, Asian Games, as well as the Commonwealth Games. A Diamond League Trophy in 2022 only adds to his legacy.
Considering Neeraj is still in his mid 20s and has a good chunk of his career left in him, there is a lot more to come from India’s ‘Man with the Golden Arm’.
Neeraj Chopra - what the numbers say
Even looking beyond the medals and major wins, Neeraj Chopra’s numbers speak for themselves. Since 2012, Neeraj Chopra has appeared in 70 different javelin throw competitions, both in India and abroad, and won a whopping 38 of them outright.
He has finished second on 15 occasions and third another three times, which means Neeraj Chopra finishes in the top three, which guarantees medals in competitions, almost 80 percent of the time.
Since becoming an Olympic champion at Tokyo 2020, Neeraj Chopra has only stepped up his game. He has finished in the top two at every competition he has been a part of since.
In these 18 competitions, he has registered marks of over 85m at every meet barring one - at the Federation Senior Athletics Championships 2024 in Bhubaneswar where a 82.27m throw was enough to win gold.
Neeraj Chopra’s best throw, a national record, measures 89.94m and came at the Stockholm Diamond League in 2022.
