Indian tennis star Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden won the Miami Open 2024 tennis men’s doubles title at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida on Saturday.
In the Miami Open final, top seeds Bopanna and Ebden showed plenty of resilience and composure to come back from a set down and secured a 6(3)-7(7), 6-3, 10-6 victory against Croatia’s Ivan Dodig and American Austin Krajicek, the second seeds. The match lasted one hour and 43 minutes.
The victory in Florida allowed the 44-year-old Bopanna to improve his own record set at the Indian Wells last year where he had become the oldest ATP 1000 Masters champion at 43. The win also helped Bopanna and Ebden to reclaim their position at the top of the men’s doubles rankings.
This was Bopanna and Ebden’s second ATP Masters 1000 title triumph as a pair, having won the Indian Wells tournament in 2023. Bopanna, however, has won six ATP Masters titles in his distinguished career.
Bopanna and Ebden’s record for the 2024 season reads 14-3 after their Miami Open conquest. The run includes winning the Australian Open 2024 title earlier this year.
"It's amazing. As long as you are doing well in these big events, it's what we play for. I want to do well in the Masters 1000s and the Grand Slams. It's good to keep that record going and keep giving everyone else a run for their money," said Bopanna.
The final at the Hard Rock Stadium was the 44-year-old’s 14th ATP Masters 1000 final and his 63rd ATP Tour level final.
Bopanna is the fourth Indian to win the Miami Open title after Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza.
