The United States of America has been the dominant force in Olympic men's basketball, winning 16 gold medals out of a possible 20 (including placing first at the past four consecutive Games).
Below, we take a closer look at the stars to watch out for in Paris, a full schedule, and how to watch the action.
Basketball stars to watch at Paris 2024 Olympics
Team USA's roster is replete with NBA All-Stars, MVPs, and Olympic champions. The squad is led by two-time Olympic gold medallist LeBron James; the 39-year-old returns to international action for the first time since the London 2012 Olympic Games, where he guided his nation to victory.
Among the big names suiting up alongside James are four-time NBA champion Steph Curry, who will be making his Olympic debut in Paris; three-time gold medallist Kevin Durant; and Jayson Tatum, fresh off of winning the 2024 NBA title with the Boston Celtics.
While the USA are the heavy favourites in Paris, hosts France (along with 2023 World Cup champions Germany) are among the leading challengers for the gold medal at the Games.
Les Bleus are coming off a poor showing at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, but they are the defending Olympic silver medallists and in addition to the backing of a partisan home crowd, France will able to call upon a generational superstar in the making in Victor Wembanyama. The 20-year-old just completed his rookie season in the NBA, winning the Rookie of the Year award and being named to the All-Defensive First Team for his efforts. Paris 2024 will be Wembanyama's first Olympic Games.
