Thousands of fans watched as 20 of the best American male gymnasts went head-to-head on the 27 and 29 June for just five spots on the coveted U.S. Team.
In the end, it was Brody Malone, Fred Richard, Asher Hong, Paul Juda and Stephen Nedoroscik that came out on top to be named to the team, with Shane Wiskus and Khoi Young set to be the team’s 2024 Olympic alternates.
Meet the five men named to the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team.
As National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Games, athletes' participation at the Paris Games depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Paris 2024
Brody Malone
Tokyo 2020 Olympian and 2022 high bar world champion Brody Malone has been named to his second Olympic Team.
After just missing the podium to take fourth place on the horizontal bar in Tokyo, Malone will be looking to land on the podium in Paris and take his first piece on Olympic hardware. Beyond dominating the NCAA to take seven individual titles through his four years at Stanford University, he has six national all-around titles, with the most recent being from the 2024 U.S. Gymnastics Championships.
The victory came after he had multiple surgeries on his right leg less than two years prior and proved that he would be, in fact, fit and ready for Paris.
Fred Richard
After taking the lead to dominate day one of competition at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, Fred Richard remained solid through both days and walk out of trials with the highest overall score of 170.500.
In 2023, he took the individual all-around bronze medal at the World Championships, while also helping his squad to bronze in the team competition. The former is one that will go down in the history books, as it was the first individual all-around medal by an American man in 13 years. He was also the youngest American to ever take an individual all-around medal.
Also known as ‘Frederick Flips’ on social media, he’s found himself as somewhat of a viral sensation, even collaborating with celebrities like Snoop Dogg and fellow champion gymnast Simone Biles.
Asher Hong
Stanford University sophomore and three-time All-American Asher Hong was loving the energy of the crowd at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
The 20-year-old was named MPSF Freshman of the Year in 2023 after he took the NCAA title on vault and with the team and the bronze medal in the all-around. At the U.S. Championships later that year, he took his first major all-around gold with a score of 85.315.
A year prior, he took sixth place in the all-around at the 2023 World Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool, United Kingdom.
Paul Juda
University of Michigan’s 11-time All American Paul Juda locked his name on the United States’ U.S. Olympic Team for Paris 2024 after finishing in fouth after the two days of competition in Minneapolis.
On top of the three NCAA titles (one all-around, two vault) he took in his collegiate career, he took the floor title at the 2023 U.S. Championships and helped the U.S. men to a bronze medal at the 2023 World Championships, where he also made it to vault and high bar finals. Paris 2024 will be Juda’s first Olympic Games and the tears that were flowing following the announcement showed just how excited the 22-year-old is for his debut.
Stephen Nedoroscik
Pommel horse specialist Stephen Nedoroscik posted the highest scores on that event on day one and second highest on day two of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, with a 14.450 on 27 June and 14.850 on the 29th.
