Tokyo Olympics-bound Indian sailors Nethra Kumanan (laser radial) and Vishnu Saravanan (laser standard) are all set to compete at the Medemblik Regatta 2021 in the Netherlands. The event will run from June 2 to 13.

Nethra Kumanan and Vishnu Saravanan qualified for Tokyo at the 2021 Mussanah Open Championships in Oman in March and will look to fully utilise the event to fine tune their preparations for the big event in July.

India’s skiff 49er team of KC Ganapathy and Varun Thakkar, who also confirmed their tickets to Tokyo at the Mussanah Open, were due to compete at Medemblik earlier but aren't on the entry list yet.

Nethra Kumanan, who was inducted in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) after becoming the first Indian woman sailor to qualify for the Olympics, has been training in Gran Canaria, Spain.

Nethra will be moving to Hungary after the Medemblik Regatta for further practice. She will also participate in competitive events there.

Vishnu Saravanan, also a fresh TOPS inductee, has been training with his coach in Malta. He will also travel to Vilamoura, Portugal, for more training leading up to Tokyo.

Part of the Hempel World Cup Series, the Medemblik Regatta is the biggest sailing event in the Netherlands and will also be the last big Olympic test event before Tokyo 2020.

Almost 300 sailors from 47 countries will be competing at Medemblik Regatta.

The first period of the event, from June 2 to 6 will see the laser radial (ILCA6), laser standard (ILCA7), RS: X Men, RS: X Women and Nacra17 classes play out.

The second period, from June 9 to 13, will see the Finn, 49er and 49erFX events being hosted.
