Marta's Olympic football career is in the balance, following her red card against Spain in Brazil's final group game on Wednesday (31 July).

Competing in her sixth Games at Paris 2024, the 38-year-old was dismissed for a high-footed challenge on Olga Carmona.

Earlier this year, the legendary no.10 to feature again.announced that she will retire from international football at the end of 2024 and this incident left her visibly emotional as she made her way off the pitch.

At Tokyo 2020, she became the first player to score at five consecutive Olympic Games and currently holds the record for the most goals scored in World Cup appearances - men or women - with 17.

The South Americans still have a chance to progress to the quarter-finals, and if they win that match, to extend two-time Olympic silver medallist Marta's Olympic career.

Fellow third-place teams in their respective groups, Canada and Australia, are still to play, and the result of those matches will determine Brazil's fate at Paris 2024.
