Five-time Olympian Marta has announced that she will be retiring from international football at the end of 2024.

Whether she attends Paris 2024 or not, the 38-year-old is calling time on her career in a Brazil shirt.

“If I go to the Olympics, I will enjoy every moment because regardless of whether I go or not, this is my last year with the national team,” she revealed to CNN Esportes.

“There is a moment when we have to understand that the time has come.

“I am very calm about this because I see with great optimism this development that we are having in relation to young [players].”

A two-time silver medallist (2004; 2008), Marta’s legacy is undeniable.

At Tokyo 2020, she became the first player to score at five consecutive Olympic Games and currently holds the record for the most goals scored in World Cup appearances - men or women - with 17.

Her full interview with CNN is set to air this weekend (27-28 April).
