Oliver Morgan will join the likes of Adam Peaty on a star-studded Team GB swimming team for the Olympic Games Paris 2024, despite having only been part of the national set up for the past four years.

The Birmingham University-based athlete secured his place in the team in stunning fashion at the British Championships on 3 April, clocking 52.70 to break a national men's 100m backstroke record that had stood since 2009.

The previous record was set by Liam Tancock 15 years ago.

"If you asked me two years ago if I would be in this position I'd have said there's no way," said Morgan, who did not start competing at national level until he was 16," Morgan said after, per Sky Sports.

"I can't put it into words. It proves you don't have to be there as a youngster. I did what I enjoyed when I was young. I played football and mountain biked."

The 20-year-old went on to win the 200m backstroke title at the London Aquatics Centre.

Morgan joins Olympic gold medallists Peaty, Tom Dean, Anna Hopkin, Duncan Scott, Matt Richards, and reigning world champion Freya Colbert on the team.
