Two-time Indian Super League (ISL) runners-up Kerala Blasters (KBFC) will hope to be third time lucky in their title bid for ISL 2020-21.

For a third-consecutive ISL season, KBFC will open their campaign against defending champions ATK Mohun Bagan, this time on November 20 at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim, Goa.

It will be a new-look Kerala Blasters side in the ISL this season. Spaniard Kibu Vicuna, who has served as an assistant at La Liga’s Osasuna and Polish side Lech Poznan, has been brought in as head coach.

It will be a battle of wits for him in his first assignment against fellow Spaniard and twice ISL champion coach Antonio Lopez Habas.

It will also be an early reunion with Kerala Blasters for India international defender Sandesh Jhingan, who moved to ATK Mohun Bagan before the start of the season.

Though KBFC lost a long-serving and experienced hand in Jhingan, they have plugged the gap by bringing in Burkina Faso’s Bakary Kone.

Kone, who has played for Lyon in Ligue 1, will bring some much-needed experience of the top level in Europe and his inputs will be essential for young India international Nishu Kumar in marshalling the defence.

The forward line has been bolstered by the arrivals of Englishman Gary Hooper, who played as a striker for Norwich City and Celtic, and Australian Jordan Murray.

They will be supplemented in attack by young winger Jeakson Singh, who scored India’s first-ever goal in a FIFA tournament when he netted against Colombia in the U-17 FIFA World Cup in 2017.

KBFC will play a total of 10 matches until January 10. Rest of the fixtures will be announced later.
