Kadeena Cox discusses heartbreaking time trial fall: “It can’t always be perfect”
Emotions ran high in Para-track cycling at the velodrome on Thursday, 29 August.
For Kadeena Cox, who had been dubbed a gold-medal favourite heading into the C4-5 time trail event at th Paris 2024 Paralympics, anticipation turned to heartbreak after she suffered a fall in the final.
“I didn’t feel comfortable in the gate and then when I started,” she revealed, speaking to Channel 4.
“My right side is my weak side and with a condition like mine, riding can’t always be perfect.
“I think I just overcompensated and couldn’t balance on my weaker side. I was all over the shop.”
Cox said that she was feeling ‘emotionally all over the place’, adding: “I’m not [doing] great if I’m honest, but I guess that’s sport.”
Unlike other years, the 33-year-old will not be competing on the track as well as in the velodrome, due to a slight calf injury.
But she still has a chance to reach the podium in the French capital, when she rides again in the C1-5 mixed team sprint on Sunday, 1 September.
“The boys are going to be counting on me to be able to get out there and deliver a quick lap,” she said, looking ahead.
“I’m hoping I can get my head back in the game and go there for them.
“It’s been a rough week, I need to try and speak to my [psychologist] and just get my head back in gear because I really don’t want to let the boys down.”
