The Indian junior women's team, meanwhile, will be eager to clinch their maiden title at the 2021 Women's Junior Hockey World Cup, scheduled to get underway from December 5 in Potchefstroom, South Africa.

The junior marquee event will also act as an important platform to recognize talents for the national team. Let us, however, have a look at the best performances of the India junior men's and women's team at the event:

India junior men's team

2001: Champions

India were placed alongside Spain, Scotland and Canada in Pool C of the 2001 Men's Junior World Cup in Hobart, Australia.

India began their campaign with a 5-0 win against Canada and 7-1 victory over Scotland in the pool stage but lost 0-3 to Spain. It was, however, enough for India to qualify to the next round as the top-placed side with nine points.

In the medal-round, India were placed in Pool F alongside heavyweights Argentina, Netherlands and Australia.

India registered a 2-2 draw against Argentina, before losing 1-2 to Australia and winning 4-3 against the Netherlands. With four points in three matches, India booked themselves a semi-final berth against Germany.

The Men in Blue managed to salvage a 3-2 win against Germany to book a final date with Argentina. It, then, turned out to be a lopsided affair in the summit clash as India outclassed Argentina 6-1 to clinch their maiden Junior World Cup.

2016: Champions

India were placed alongside England, South Africa and Canada in Pool D at the 2016 Men's Hockey Junior World Cup in Lucknow.

The hosts swept the pool stage with wins over Canada (4-0), England (5-3) and South Africa (1-2) to enter the quarter-finals as the top-place side with nine points.

Indian, then, defeated Spain 2-1 in the quarter-finals before registering a 4-2 win in the penalty shootout against Australia in the semi-finals, to set a final clash against Belgium.

The final turned out to be a close encounter, but India held their nerves to win 2-1 against the Young Red Lions and clinch their second Junior World Cup.

2013: Third place

India were placed alongside Australia, New Zealand and Russia in Pool C at the 2013 Women's Hockey Junior World Cup in Monchengladbach, Germany.

India began their campaign with a 1-6 drubbing against Australia but then recovered strongly to beat New Zealand (2-0) and Russia (10-1) to enter the quarter-finals as the second-best placed team with six points.

India, then, defeated Spain 4-2 but their hopes to enter their maiden final were dashed with a 0-3 loss to the Netherlands in the semi-finals. However, the Indian eves, maintained their composure to beat England 3-2 in the penalty shoot out to record their best-ever finish at the Junior World Cup.
