Jordan Chiles hints at 6 August announcement: "I might have [UCLA] across my chest, you might see me in '28."
Newly minted Olympic women's gymnastics team champion Jordan Chiles has a date for fans to mark in their calendars: 6 August.
The two-time Olympic medallist, who starred for two seasons a member of the University of California-Los Angeles women's gymnastics team, hinted to Olympics.com Friday (2 August) that that’s when she’ll make an announcement about her future plans.
"I know floor is coming up. That's my main focus, but you never know. You never know. I might have the four letters [UCLA] across my chest. You might see me in '28," said Chiles. "As of right now, I think my main focus is kind of just finishing floor because this is my first time ever being in an event final. I'm really excited about that.
"I just say stay tuned for August 6th. There might be an announcement for something," she concluded.
The American competed in the NCAA for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
Then, she headed back to her training base alongside Simone Biles at the Houston-area World Champions Centre.
The 2022 world team champion has remained close with her UCLA teammates since leaving campus, telling Olympics.com that a trip last spring to Hawaii helped her rediscover her motivation for Paris.
“I just really wanted to take time to myself to make sure I was ready and mentally prepared going into this next cycle of my life,” she told us in September. “There was a lot of things that were going through my brain. At first, I was like, 'Do I want to do this? Do I not.' Only because I'd such an amazing NCAA season, I didn't want to leave my team. I didn't want to leave something behind that maybe I could have kept with me.
“But at the same time, you know, I had a lot of people telling me, like, 'You got this.' Like, 'Go for it,'” she continued. “Even [UCLA head coach] Janelle [McDonald] was telling me, she's like, 'No, you got this. We're going to be cheering you on. Your team is always going to be here.'”
