When Simone Biles takes the floor Tuesday evening (30 July) for the women’s artistic gymnastics team final at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 she’ll have one very special fan in the Bercy Arena stands: her husband, Jonathan Owens.

“Coming for you baby,” Owens posted on his Instagram story with a photo of him onboard an airplane.

Biles reposted it, adding four emojis: "🤞🏾🤞🏾🥹🥹”

In the three years since the Tokyo Games where Biles withdrew from the women’s team final and four subsequent individual finals to priortise her mental health, the 27-year-old has repeatedly talked about how the isolation of those COVID Games where her family was on the other side of the planet in Houston, Texas, affected her.

Not here in Paris, however.

In addition to Owens, much of Biles’ family is on hand in Paris, including her parents, Ron and Nellie, who attended Friday’s (26 July) Opening Ceremony.

Being in Paris has been a priority for Owens, who negotiated time away from his NFL duties as a safety for the Chicago Bears.

“It was something me and my agent talked about when we went in and I signed with the team,” said Owens, according to the Associated Press. “The Olympics coming up and who my wife is, that was just something ... it was all respectful. We went to them and just asked, ‘We would really appreciate it if he could go and support his wife,’ and they were really cool about it.”

Biles and Owens wed last May in a ceremony in Cabo. He plans to stay through Thursday’s (1 August) women’s all-around final.
