Paris 2024 Paralympics | Para cycling road : Sarah Storey is the C5 individual time trial paralympic champion
After the early harvest of medals in track Para cycling during the first days of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, the French team has already secured its first road medal! Vice-Paralympic champion in the 3000m individual pursuit - behind her compatriot Marie Patouillet - Heïdi Gaugain won another silver medal this Wednesday in the C5 individual time trial.
In Clichy-sous-Bois, the French cyclist had initially taken the lead, holding a 7-second advantage over her main rival after the 5.8 km mark. However, British cyclist Sarah Storey made a strong comeback, winning the 15.4 km race with a time of 20 min 22 s 15, finishing 4.69 seconds ahead of the young Frenchwoman and keeping her crown after her title at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
Australian Alana Forster (38 seconds behind) completed the podium ahead of New Zealander Nicole Murray (+1s 24). The other French competitor, Marie Patouillet, finished fifth (+1s 27). Both French cyclists will have one last chance to shine at these Paris 2024 Paralympic Games this Friday during the road race.
A few moments later, in the C4 category, it was American Samantha Bosco who took the victory (in 21 min 39 s 24), just ahead of Australian Meg Lemon (+4s 92) and Swiss Franziska Matile-Doerig (+5s 09).
