Japan’s Oka Sinnosuke won his fourth medal and third gold of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 on 5 August, after coming out on top of the men’s horizontal bar final with a score of 14.533.

Oka adds this win to his all-around and team gold medals from Paris, as well as a bronze on the pommel horse. The combination of medals makes him as the first male gymnast to take four medals in a single competition since Sydney 2000.

“I didn't really expect to win a gold medal on the horizontal bar,” he said visibly elated.

Which medal doe she feel most excited about? "My favourite one is of course the gold medal in the team final, because that's what we've been working so hard for. It's a collective result."

Colombia’s Angel Barajas, who posted the same score as Oka, will take the silver with a lower execution score breaking the tie. He broke down into tears of joy as the final standings were posted and he became his country’s first ever Olympic medallist in gymnastics at just 17 years old.

"This is a promise I made myself a long time ago. Of course, for this reason, I am very happy and satisfied (with the result). I know I did a good job and wrote history for Colombia by doing so,” he said.

"To be a 17-year-old in the Olympics is a crazy experience, but it is more important to just enjoy it out there."

Chinese Taipei’s Tang Chia-Hung and People’s Republic of China’s Zhang Boheng tied for third place with a 13.966.
