On the day of Japan's UENO Yukiko's 39th birthday, the host nation won their second game, this time over Mexico, in the Softball Opening Round at the Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium.

In a 3-2 walk-off victory during an extra innings, Japan were able to continue their winning ways at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 in a tight battle with relief pitcher GOTO Miu proving to be the decisive force stranding fivers runners in the final two innings.

Mexico, 0-2 at its first Olympics, tied the score 2-2 when YAMADA Eri dropped Anissa Urtez’s fly to centre in the seventh inning for what was ruled a single.

ATSUMI Mana's squeeze bunt single with one out in the eighth inning helped Japan to victory and a 2-0 winning margin as they look to defend their gold medal from the Beijing 2008 Games.

With the Olympic Softball games shifting to Yokohama after the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, Japan will take on Italy while Mexico come up against the USA.
