Even before the final race of the evening, the **2024 Oslo Diamond League** had seen more than its fair share of drama.

But with Doha 2019 world champion [**Timothy Cheruiyot**](https://olympics.com/en/athletes/timothy-cheruiyot) bearing down on him in the closing stages of the 1500m, Olympic champion [**Jakob Ingebrigtsen**](https://olympics.com/en/athletes/jakob-ingebrigtsen) knew it would take something special to keep his rival at bay.

With the home crowd roaring him on, Ingebrigtsen - quite literally - dived across the finish line to secure victory in Norway’s capital - and with it set a statement world lead time of 3:29.74 that will give him a huge boost in confidence heading towards [Paris 2024](https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024).

The memorable end to the Oslo Diamond League brought back memories of others who have taken this less conventional route to victory, including the Bahamas [**Shaunae Miller-Uibo**](https://olympics.com/en/athletes/shaunae-miller) whose own dive at [Rio 2016](https://olympics.com/en/olympic-games/rio-2016) secured her place as Olympic 400m champion.
