Even before the final race of the evening, the 2024 Oslo Diamond League had seen more than its fair share of drama.

But with Doha 2019 world champion Timothy Cheruiyot bearing down on him in the closing stages of the 1500m, Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen knew it would take something special to keep his rival at bay.

With the home crowd roaring him on, Ingebrigtsen - quite literally - dived across the finish line to secure victory in Norway’s capital - and with it set a statement world lead time of 3:29.74 that will give him a huge boost in confidence heading towards Paris 2024.

The memorable end to the Oslo Diamond League brought back memories of others who have taken this less conventional route to victory, including the Bahamas Shaunae Miller-Uibo whose own dive at Rio 2016 secured her place as Olympic 400m champion.
