ISSF junior world championship: India win three golds and a silver on penultimate day

India sit top of the table with 30 medals, including 13 golds, 11 silvers and six bronze medals, going into the last day.

Indian shooters won three golds and a silver medal to take their total tally to 30 medals at the ISSF Junior World Championship 2021 in Lima, Peru on Friday.

The first medal of the day was a silver in the 50m rifle 3 positions mixed team junior event by the Indian pair of Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Ayushi Podder.

The Indian team was beaten 31-17 in the final by Germany’s Max Braun and Anna Janssen, who claimed the gold medal.

Two gold medals then followed in the junior men’s and women’s double trap events. All participants in both events were Indian.

In the junior men’s double trap, Vinay Pratap Singh Chandrawat won gold with a total of 120. Sehajpreet Singh won silver with 114 and Mayank Shokeen took bronze with 111.

Manvi Soni (105) won gold in the junior women’s double trap, with Yeshaya Contractor (90) taking the silver medal and Hitasha (76) winning bronze.

India finished the day with a gold medal in the junior men’s 25m rapid fire pistol team event.

A team of 2018 Commonwealth Games champion Anish Bhanwala, Vijayveer Sidhu and Adarsh Singh beat Germany’s Fabian Otto, Felix Hollfoth and Tobias Gsoell 10-2 in the final to win the gold.

India have now won a total of 30 medals - 13 golds, 11 silvers and six bronze medals - at the event, comfortably putting them top of the pile.

The USA are second with 20 medals and Italy third with 10 medals.

Manu Bhaker, with four golds and one bronze, is the most successful Indian at this edition of the meet.
