When it comes to the top international surfing events, one can always count on Team USA to mount a stellar challenge. And the 2023 ISA World Surfing Games are no exception.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Carissa Moore, double world champion John John Florence, together with Caroline Marks and Griffin Colapinto, the world No. 4 in the men’s and women’s rankings, respectively, are descending on Surf City El Salvador to defend the team title USA won at last year’s event.

Solid results at the World Surfing Games will also get the athletes closer to qualifying for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games where two tickets to Paris 2024, one per gender, are up for grabs.

USA’s surfing superstars will be in action from 30 May to 7 June. Check out Olympics.com to watch the live stream of the competition, get a breakdown of the results and read exclusive interviews.

United States took the overall crown at last year’s event ahead of Australia and France, while its women’s team secured an extra, third quota for a USA female surfer at Paris 2024.

At this year’s World Surfing Games the team is back with five different surfers. Griffin Colapinto is the only one who also competed in the 2022 edition.

Two of the three USA women currently in the Top 5 of the world ranking will compete in El Salvador: Olympic champion and five-time world champion Carissa Moore and multi-national champion Caroline Marks.

Joining them on the women’s side is Hawaii-born Brianna Cope, a surfer known for her grit on and off the waves.

On the men’s side, the team features John John Florence, Griffin Colapinto and Tyler Gunter.

Currently ranked sixth in the world, Florence is one of the most established names on the tour and has seen his form improve in recent competitions. Colapinto is also enjoying a strong season with two second place finishes on the 2023 World Championship Tour so far.
