India’s Divij Sharan and Ankita Raina were knocked out of the US Open 2021 tennis late on Wednesday night.

Divij Sharan and his South Korean partner Kwon Soon-woo lost 6-3, 6-4 to the fourth-seeded English-American pair of Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram in men’s doubles at the Flushing Meadows, New York.

Divij Sharan was initially not part of the US Open but Salisbury-Ram’s first round opponents, Belarus’

Egor Gerasimov and Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia, withdrew from the men’s doubles draw handing the Indian and his South Korean partner entry in the event.

The duo, however, was unable to make the most of the opportunity.

Meanwhile, Ankita Raina and her Ukranian partner Kateryna Bondarenko lost 6-1, 6-1 to eighth seeds Andreja Klepac of Slovenia and Croatia’s Darija Jurak.

Ankita Raina and Kateryna Bondarenko also got a late entry to the women’s doubles after the Spanish pair of Paula Badosa and Sara Sorribes Tormo withdrew from the draw.

Veteran Rohan Bopanna and his Croatian partner Ivan Dodig’s men’s doubles opening round match against the Australian pair of James Duckworth and Jordan Thompson was suspended on Wednesday due to rain and wind.

Rohan Bopanna and Ivan Dodig are seeded 13th in the men’s doubles.

The legendary Sania Mirza will begin her 2021 US Open campaign in the women’s doubles with the USA’s Coco Vandeweghe late on Wednesday while she has also paired up with Rajeev Ram for the mixed doubles.
