Sania Mirza continued her winning run since making a comeback to the court as she and partner Andreja Klepac of Slovenia went through to the semi-finals of the Qatar Open in Doha on Wednesday.

Mirza-Klepac beat Russian Anna Blinkova and Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski 6-2, 6-0 in the women’s doubles quarter-finals at the WTA 500 tournament.

The Indo-Slovenian pair had earlier beaten Ukrainian twins Lyudmyla Kichenok and Nadiia Kichenok in three sets in the first round.

Sania Mirza and Andreja Klepac held serve in the opening game and then broke fourth seeds Blinkova-Dabrowski to take an early 2-0 lead.

However, the Indo-Slovenian pair were broken in the third game but they maintained their advantage with another break of their opponents’ serve in the very next game.

The match rolled along on expected lines then, as both pairs held their serve, with Mirza-Klepac saving three break points en route taking a 5-2 lead.

The Indo-Slovenian team then broke Blinkova-Dabrowski for a third time in the set to win the first set.

The second set proved to be a much shorter affair.

As they did for most of the match, Sania Mirza and Andreja Klepac kept hold of their serve and then broke the Russian-Canadian pair thrice in three games to wrap up the match in quick time.

The 34-year-olds Sania Mirza and Andreja Klepac will next face the American-Dutch pair of Nicole Melichar and Demi Schuurs in the semi-final.
