The Indian pairs of Elavenil Valarivan and Divyansh Singh Panwar, and Anjum Moudgil and Deepak Kumar will be in action in the inaugural 10m air rifle mixed team competition at the Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday.
Elavenil and Divyansh won the gold medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team event at the 2018 ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany. The pair had also won gold at the World Cup in New Delhi in March this year.
Deepak won gold along with Apurvi Chandela in the 10m air rifle mixed team competition at the 2019 ISSF World Cup in Rio de Janeiro. Anjum won bronze at the same tournament along with Divyansh.
None of Elavenil, Divyansh or Deepak could make the final in the women’s and men’s 10m air rifle events at the Tokyo Olympics.
Other leading competitors in the 10m air rifle mixed team event at the Asaka Shooting Range in Tokyo will be the Hungarian pair of men’s world No. 1 Istvan Peni and women’s world No. 9 Eszter Meszaros. The American pair of men’s world No. 3 Lucas Kozeniesky and women’s world No. 2 Mary Carolynn Tucker will also be in the fray.
The 10m air rifle mixed team event begins with the first qualification stage after which the top eight pairs will progress to the second qualification stage. The top two pairs at the end of the second qualification stage will contest the gold-medal match while the third and fourth-placed pairs will play the bronze-medal match.
