Mussanah Open sailing: Nethra Kumanan climbs to lead on Day 2
Nethra Kumanan, the first Indian woman to win a sailing World Cup medal, finished first and second in two races to lead the Laser Radial class.
Youngster Nethra Kumanan rose to the top of the charts in the Laser Radial category in the Mussanah Open Championship 2021 at the Millennium Resort in Mussanah, Oman on Sunday.
Nethra Kumanan had created history last year by becoming the first female Indian sailor to win a Sailing World Cup medal with bronze at the Hempel World Cup Series in Miami, USA.
At Mussanah, the 23-year-old Kumanan, who was placed fourth on Saturday, came up with an inspired performance on Sunday, winning the third race and coming home second in the fourth race.
Nethra Kumanan currently has a net total of five points (total of 12, but the lowest finish is excluded from the net total calculation).
Compatriots Ramya Sarvanan (12 net total) and Harshita Tomar (13 net total) were placed third and fourth respectively.
In the Laser Standard class, Vishnu Saravanan sits third with a net total of nine points after finishing second in Race 3 and fourth in Race 4 on Sunday.
The Indian team of KC Ganapathy (Helm) and Varun Thakkar (Crew) is third in the 49er class, with a net total of 20. They finished fourth in Race 4, fifth in Race 5 and third in Race 6 on Sunday.
In the 49erFX class, Ekta Yadav (Helm) and Ritika Dangi (Crew) were placed fourth with a net total of 15.
