Indian golfer Shubhankar Sharma’s run at the Irish Open ended with a tied-64th spot on Sunday.
Having survived a triple bogey to make the cut, the 24-year-old Indian found it tough from thereon and wrapped up the European Tour event with an aggregate card of 11-over 291 (72+72+76+71).
Meanwhile, American John Catlin braved testing conditions to record a two-stroke win for his second European Tour title of the season. The 29-year-old carded 10-under 270 (67+70+69+64).
Windy conditions posed a challenge for the golfers at the Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort in Ballymena, Northern Ireland throughout the competition.
On Saturday, it looked like Shubhankar Sharma lost control of his game as a bridie-less third round saw him slip to the bottom of the pecking order with a six-over 76 score.
But the two-time European Tour winner made amends in the final round to stay strong through the difficult phase and didn’t let the delayed start - due to frosty conditions - affect him.
Starting on the back nine, Shubhankar Sharma sunk in two bridies on the 12th and the 18th following a bogey on the 11th.
The joy, however, was short-lived as bogeys on the seventh and the ninth saw him finish the round with a card of one-over 71.
Meanwhile, champion John Catlin had no such trouble as he managed seven birdies and a bogey to finish with an impressive card of six-under 64 for the day.
What’s next on the European Tour
The European Tour continues with the Scottish Open on October 1 at The Renaissance Club, North Berwick, Scotland.
The event will be the first on the European Tour to witness spectators during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with the Scottish authorities permitting 650 fans for the four-day event.
