Shubhankar Sharma stays steady at Celtic Classic
The two-time European Tour winner returned a two-under 211 after three rounds at The Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales.
Indian golfer Shubhankar Sharma is tied-66 alongside three others after the third round of European Tour’s Celtic Classic on Saturday.
After Sharma had just managed to make the cut at the 65th position, the two-time European Tour winner focussed on trimming his errors in the third round. He carded a one-under round of 70 to lie on -2 overall going into the final round.
Though the windy and drizzling conditions in Wales didn’t make it easy for the golfers, Shubhankar Sharma got over his shaky start quickly.
It was a flurry of back nine birdies again, as was the case in the second round, that saw the Jammu golfer compensate for the difficult start.
After two bogeys on the par-4 fifth and par-3 seventh in the front nine saw Shubhankar Sharma finish two-over midway through the course, the Indian carded three consecutive birdies in the 10th, 11th and 12th.
Sam Horsfield drops to second
After a brilliant second round, which saw the English golfer carding nine birdies and an eagle to end seven-under 64 and top the rankings, Sam Horsfield practised caution on Saturday.
Horsfield’s fine second round performance also saw him carding a bogey and double bogey on par-5 second and par-three 17th respectively, and the Englishman decided to steer clear of them on Saturday.
However, the reserved approach saw him carding only three birdies to end three-under 68 after round three and sit second on the leaderboard.
Disciplined Scotsman Conor Syme sunk eight birdies to finish eight-under 63 to top the table.
