This will be the Indian football team’s first visit to Nepal since 2015, when they had competed in playoffs for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

After a two-week preparatory camp in Kolkata, a 25-member Indian football squad flew out to Kathmandu on Monday.

“The Kolkata camp helped us to get back into shape as much it helped us gain a lot of technical insights,” said midfielder Pronay Halder.

“It was kind of a perfect pre-season for all of us. The practice sessions were insightful, while the gym sessions helped us to tone down further while attaining strength at the same time.”

There will be two new faces in the squad in striker Rahim Ali and defender Seriton Fernandes.

Sunil Chhetri will lead the attack which includes Manvir Singh and Farukh Choudhary while Gurpreet Singh Sandhu is expected to start in goal.

Veteran defender Sandesh Jhingan is missing from the squad due to injury he sustained shortly after completing a move to Croatian top-tier side Prva HNL. Midfielders Rowllin Borges, Udanta Singh and Ashique Kuruniyan have also been left out.
