India continue fine form at South Asian Games
The shooters and kabaddi team bring delight to the Indian contingent at the 2019 Games.
Indian shooters kept up their high standards at the 2019 South Asian Games in Nepal, as they claimed three more gold medals for shooting. India’s medal tally now stands at 114 golds, 71 silvers and 37 bronzes.
In the men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol category, teenage Indian shooter Anish Bhanwala bagged the gold medal with a score of 31, with Pakistan’s Bashir Gulam Mustafa and fellow Indian Bhavesh Shekhawat claiming the silver and bronze respectively.
In the 10m mixed team Air Rifle category, Yash Vardhan of India continued his fine form at the South Asian Games partnering up with young sensation Mehuli Ghosh to win the gold medal. India’s shooters also excelled in the men’s 25m Rapid Fire team event, as the trio of Bhanwala, Shekhawat and Adarsh Singh picked up the gold medal with a cumulative score of 1721.
Cycling, handball and swimming golds at South Asian Games
The gold medals continued to flow for India at the South Asian Games as cyclists Satbir Singh and Sonali Chanu claimed the top place in the men’s and women’s individual road race. Swati Singh won the silver medal in the women’s individual race to give India yet another medal.
In handball, the Indian women’s team sealed the gold medal with a dominant 35-21 win over hosts Nepal. The men’s team however could not get their hands on the yellow metal as they narrowly lost against Pakistan 29-30 in the final.
India’s swimmers also continued to impress as Manna Patel set a national record of 1:02:36 en route a gold medal in the women’s 100m backstroke race with compatriot Ridhima Kumar winning bronze. In the women’s 800m Freestyle, Richa Mishra bagged the gold while S Siva finished first in the men’s 400m individual medley with a timing of 4:27:77.
Kabaddi teams make final at South Asian Games
The Indian kabaddi teams cruised through to the final of the 2019 South Asian Games without breaking a sweat as they recorded fine wins over their respective opponents on Sunday.
The men’s team humbled Nepal 62-26 in their final group game to stay unbeaten in the competition and are now favourites to claim the gold when they take on Sri Lanka in the final. They had beaten the island nation 49-16 in the league stage game a few days back.
The women’s team, meanwhile, will take on Nepal in their gold-medal match. The Indians had recorded a 43-19 win when the two sides faced off in the league stage of the competition in Kathmandu.
