Boxers Duryodhan Singh Negi and Satish Kumar bowed out of the Men’s World Boxing Championships in Yekaterinburg after suffering defeats on Monday.

Negi eliminated

Duryodhan Singh Negi put up a strong fight against Jordan’s Zeyad Eashash in the men’s welter (69kg) category but ultimately found himself on the wrong end of a split decision.

Losing his bout by a 4-1 margin, the former national champion could not cope with the sheer power of his opponent.

A concerted attack in the final round by Negi gave Eashash problems, but ultimately the Jordanian came through unscathed.

India’s day did not get any better as Satish Kumar – competing in the Super Heavy +91kg category – lost his bout to USA’s Richard Torrez in a unanimous decision (5-0).

The 30-year-old boxer from Bulandshahr, who clinched silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, was lacklustre throughout.

His American opponent was not forced to exert too much energy to seal the win in a scrappy contest.
