Post pandemic, PV Sindhu promises to display new strokes
With the Telangana government easing lockdown restrictions, the world badminton champion has resumed her on-court training at the Suchitra Academy.
“I am trying out some new strokes which you will be seeing soon. You have to be a different player consistently to outsmart the rivals." - PV Sindhu speaking to Sportstar
With the Telangana government easing the lockdown restrictions, PV Sindhu has wasted no time in getting back into her normal physical training routine at the Suchitra Academy in Hyderabad.
Sindhu conducts her badminton training at the Gopichand Academy.
The Rio 2016 silver medallist said, “The lockdown has been frustrating, to say the least. But, fortunately, thanks to the guidance of my father (PV Ramana), I have ensured that I was not lagging too far behind on this front."
At the Suchitra Academy, the reigning world champion has been training under the watchful eye of fitness trainer M Srikanth Verma, who has worked with her in the past.
Sindhu said, “He understands my needs and comes up with the right kind of physical conditioning exercises which actually helped me a long way before I went on to be the world champion last year.
“I am in a comfort zone at Suchitra Academy. And, even in these times, I am pleased with the kind of safety measures they put in place."
Though the 25-year-old is sceptical about the resumption of the season, PV Sindhu said it was important to stay in top shape and be ready for action.
“We are not sure what is going to happen both on the court and off it, but I should be ready for action as and when the BWF schedules an event after the pandemic,” Sindhu said.
