The United States of America has long been recognised as the dominant force in men's basketball, though in the years building up to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, their reputation - and performances - had taken a bit of a hit.

At the 2019 FIBA World Cup, just three years after winning the gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, the USA slipped to a 7th-place finish: their worst result in the history of the competition. However, Team USA quickly righted the ship at Tokyo 2020. Despite losing their opening game to France, the USA strolled to a fourth successive Olympic gold medal to put themselves back at the summit of world basketball.

But despite being the reigning Olympic champions, Team USA enters the 2023 FIBA World Cup as the No.2 ranked team in the world, behind defending world champions Spain. Should the USA secure a top-two finish amongst teams from the Americas at the World Cup, the team will have secured a quota to next summer's Paris 2024 Olympic Games. As National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Games, athletes' participation at the Paris Games depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Paris 2024.

Olympics.com takes look at the USA's roster and schedule for the upcoming World Cup, as well as information on how to watch their games live.
