Hashimoto Daiki has pulled out of the NHK Trophy after suffering a training injury to his right middle finger, the Japan Gymnastics Association announced on Thursday (16 May).

Hashimoto damaged a ligament in the finger while practising on the parallel bars on Wednesday, the JGA said. The Olympic and world men's all-around champion is withdrawing as a precautionary measure.

Hashimoto did not speak to the media. In his stead, men's national coach Mizutori Hisashi will address the developing situation on Friday.

The NHK Trophy was Hashimoto's last competition before the Olympic Games Paris 2024, for which he has already been handed a place on the team.
