Team GB at Paris 2024 Olympics: Preview, highlights, athletes to watch and schedule for 3 August
The 3rd of August marks the second Saturday of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 with another thrilling day in store for British athletes competing on Day 8 of the Games.
Max Whitlock will attempt to make Olympic history by becoming the first artistic gymnast from any nation to win a medal on the same apparatus at four different editions of the Games.
Dina Asher-Smith will be hoping to claim a first individual Olympic medal in the women's 100 metres, presuming she emerges unscathed from the highly-charged semi-final earlier in the day that is.
The rowing regatta concludes with Team GB's men's eight, the two-time world champions, targeting a matching Olympic gold.
Mixed relays feature today, in swimming and athletics. The Brits are the defending champions in the highly-anticipated mixed 4x100m medley relay, winning the Olympic debut contest at Tokyo 2020. The mixed 4x400m relay on the track, features in its second Olympic outing.
Tom Pidcock competes in his second cycling event of Paris 2024, the men's road race, and that just marks the beginning of an action-packed day for Team GB, with the equestrian dressage team aiming for another medal after bronze in Japan.

British athletes to watch on 3 August at Paris 2024: Max Whitlock, Dina Asher-Smith and Tom Pidcock
Max Whitlock is going all in at what he's said will be his final Olympic Games. With six Olympic medals to his name, including three gold, the Brit has a chance today to make Olympic artistic gymnastics history, if he wins a medal of any colour in the pommel horse final.
The showdown on the apparatus in which Whitlock is a two-time Olympic champion, features the top eight gymnasts who secured qualification on Saturday (26 July) – bearing in mind the two-per-country rule in each individual final. The world champion from Ireland, Rhys McClenaghan one of a number of likely adversaries hoping to stop Whitlock from claiming a threepeat, and additional Olympic history.
Two-time 4x100m Olympic bronze medallist Dina Asher-Smith successfully navigated the heats to head into today's semi-final and, hopefully, final later in the day. One of the hottest tickets in town, the women's 100m, features the likes of world champion Sha'Carri Richardson of Team USA, Julien Alfred of St Lucia and Jamaica's sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, an eight-time Olympic medallist including two gold in this event.
Tom Pidcock features at Paris 2024 for the second time in a week as he takes to the men's road race. On Monday (29 July) he defended his Olympic title in dramatic circumstances in the men's mountain bike, with a tyre puncture not enough to put him off his ride. He is now set to see what he can do on the flat stuff.
