On Thursday 1 June, Team GB announced the list of athletes who will compete at the upcoming European Games in Krakow-Małopolska, Poland, which take place from 21 June to 2 July 2023.
For many of the British athletes, the Games represent an opportunity to secure spots for next year’s Olympic Games Paris 2024, with direct quotas available for archery, artistic swimming, boxing, breaking, canoe slalom, diving, modern pentathlon, rugby sevens, shooting and table tennis.
In addition to the quotas on offer, the Games offer Olympic ranking points in some sports, while a number of other sports will host their European Championships in Poland.
The 178-strong team includes Olympic gold medallists, such as BMX freestyler Charlotte Worthington, Modern pentathlete Joe Choong, taekwondo star Jade Jones and slalom canoeist Joe Clarke.
Great Britain and Northern Ireland will also send an athletics team to compete at the European Athletics Team Championships, which will feature as part of the Games. The list of athletes will be released on 7 June.
