People's Republic of China claimed the opening gold medal on day 6 of competition at the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Gangwon 2024, winning the mixed relay in speed skating.
The Chinese team of Liu Yunqi and Pan Baoshuo beat hosts Republic of Korea (Lim Leewon, Heo Seok), who took silver, while Angel Daleman and Sam Spruit of Netherlands claimed bronze. For Daleman it's a third YOG medal after golds in the women's 500m and 1500m.
Elsewhere, USA picked up their second gold of these Youth Olympics, with Henry Townshend winning the men's freestyle skiing slopestyle title. The snowboard men's slopestyle was won by Lee Chaeun of the Republic of Korea.
Team GB's alpine skier Zak Carrick-Smith collected his second gold and third medal of these YOGs with alpine skiing men's slalom victory, while Maja Waroschitz claimed the women's title for Austria.
Latvia beat Denmark 10-3 in the final of the ice hockey men's 3-on-3 tournament to claim gold. The women's title went to Hungary after they beat Team Korea 10-2.
