After one day’s rest the men are back competing in alpine skiing, where they take on the giant slalom event.
Zak Carrick-Smith took a sensational gold medal in the combined competition - Great Britain's first ever alpine skiing medal at a Winter Olympic event. The brit set the best time in slalom ahead of Sweden’s Alexander Ax Swartz, who will be eager to take a step up the podium.
The winner of the giant slalom race at the European Youth Olympic Festival in 2023, Miha Oserban, of Slovenia, is another name to look out for.
Day five sees the biathlon event conclude with the mixed relay. France are the heavy favourites after winning the single mixed relay by almost a minute down to runner-up Germany and third place Norway. Frenchman Antonin Guy has already made history by winning three gold medals at these Winter Youth Olympic Games. Will he make it four?
Freestyle skiers will, for the first time, compete in the mixed-gender team ski cross event at a Winter Youth Olympic Games. Switzerland, Canada, France, and the United States look like the top contenders for the medals.
Italy’s flagbearer, Flora Tabanelli, will be among the fresh faces hoping to get their breakthrough in the women’s freestyle slopestyle. The 16-year-old Italian is already holding an impressive medal collection that includes junior world gold in Big Air and silver in slopestyle.
Germany’s Muriel Mohr has already made the top ten in slopestyle at the senior World Cup, besides winning the junior world title in slopestyle in 2023 - ahead of Tabanelli.
In snowboard slopestyle, the women will also be in action. Keep an eye on New Zealand’s junior world champion Lucia Georgalli. The biggest threat for Goergalli might come from the Oceanian neighbours Australia, where Ally Hickman is looking to challenge for gold. At last year’s Junior World Championship, the Australian came in third place.
For short track speed skating it is the final day of competition, finishing up with the mixed team relay. Among the expected medal candidates are Hungary, Poland, Netherlands, and the hosts Republic of Korea.
