There was jubilation for Great Britain on day three of the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Gangwon 2024 as they secured their first medal of the Games with a gold in the men's combined alpine skiing competition.

Zak Carrick-Smith stormed from a long way back on the second run to claim victory for Team GB with Sweden taking second and third. Maja Waroschitz of Austria claimed the women's title.

Joining Britain in a successful quest for gold was the United States in short track speed skating. 17-year-old Sean Boxiong Shuai claimed first in the men's 500m to deliver Team USA its first piece of top silverware.

The Netherlands once again showed their dominance in speed skating as Angel Daleman took gold in the women's 500m winning the first title on offer at the Gangneung Oval.

Her time of 39.28 seconds secured back-to-back titles for the Netherlands in the Winter YOG at the event. Korean skater Jung Huidan came second, with Japan's Sasabuchi Waka in bronze.

In the curling competition, Brazil made epic strides in their Winter Games history after notching their first-ever win. Their 6-4 triumph over Germany marks Brazil's first win in a winter Olympic team sport at either Winter YOG or Olympic Winter Games.

Thailand also wrote a new chapter of history after Agnese Campeol brought home a silver in the women's monobob event. It's the Southeast Asian country's first Winter YOG medal and first-ever medal at any winter Olympic competition.
