Canada claimed the opening gold of day 10 at the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Gangwon 2024, on Monday (29 January).
Annika Behnke and Kole Sauve topped the scoresheets in pairs figure skating for the Canadian team with a score of 74.54 in the free skate, despite a trip at the start of their performance, giving them a total of 113.63. The USA pair of Smith/McPike won silver (98.00) with Spain's Campillo/Vilella claiming bronze (94.03).
The men's singles title went to Kim Hyungyeom of Republic of Korea, to the delight of the home crowd. Slovakia's Adam Hagara took silver, while New Zealand claimed their first-ever medal in the sport, with Yanhao (Dwayne) Li picking up bronze.
Elsewhere on Monday (29 January), Finland's Minja Korhonen won the women's individual Nordic combined title, with Slovenia claiming silver and bronze. Austria's Andreas Gfrerer won the men's title.
Sweden and Italy were golden in the cross-country ski sprint events.
