From serious injury to Olympic gold: Michela Moioli's redemption story

Michela Moioli's snowboarding career almost finished while she was still a teenager.

At 18 years of age, the Italian was the youngest athlete lining up for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic snowboard cross finals.

But her medal hopes melted away, like the snow beneath her, when a heavy fall resulted in a ruptured cruciate ligament.

She underwent surgery, took a year out of the sport for injury rehab, began plotting her way back to the top.

Four years later, on top of the PyeongChang 2018 podium with a gold medal around her neck, her redemption was complete.

Moioli shared the story of her remarkable triumph in the face of adversity, in the final episode of the Against the Odds series on Olympic Channel.

The Italian took to social media to express her excitement about the film of her story.

"Hi guys – Tune in tomorrow where you will see me featured in the Olympic Channel's original series #AgainstAllOdds!" she wrote on Instagram.

"We look back at Sochi’s 2014 crash and how I came back stronger than ever to win gold last year at Pyeongchang!"

The season ahead

With the FIS Snowboard Cross World Cup first leg at Montoban cancelled due to poor snow, she will likely first be in action at home in Cervinia, 20-22 Dec.

Now the Olympic champion, Moioli will have different motivations ahead of the new season.
