The United States men’s basketball team made it safely through to the second round of the FIBA World Cup 2023.
Steve Kerr’s men have so far lived up to their pre-tournament credentials as favourites, emphatically punching their ticket to the second phase of the tournament with a 3-0 record.
The US opened their World Cup campaign with a 99-72 victory over New Zealand's Tall Blacks before taking out Greece 109-81. They then dispatched Jordan 110-62 to ensure they finished on top of Group C.
The second stage of the tournament will see the top two teams from round one form four new groups. Every team will play against the two new teams in their group, with previous results from round one carrying over.
In the case of the US, they advance out of their group as winners with Greece as runners-up and will merge with Lithuania and Montenegro - the winner and runner-up of Group D - to form Group J.
The US will play against Montenegro on Friday 1 September before taking on Lithuania on Sunday 3 September.
The top two teams from Group J after all games played will advance to the FIBA World Cup quarter-finals.
