Lithuania may be wondering if they would be in this position instead of Serbia had they lost to the USA. Instead, their victory over the USA meant they faced a hungry Serbian team that had finished in second place in Group I. The Eagles disaplyed their defensive ferocity in a 87-68 win over Lithuania, holding their opponents to under 20 points in each of the last three quarters while also forcing 15 turnovers.

Bogdan Bogdanovic was the star of the show, scoring 21 points on 9 of 13 shooting.

Serbia now face Canada, who came through a bruising encounter with Slovenia on Wednesday afternoon that saw both Luka Doncic and Dillon Brooks get ejected within the space of 90 seconds. While Serbia are no doubt already beginning preparations to deal with the electric talent on Canada's roster (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and RJ Barrett combined for 55 points in Canada's 100-89 win), they may also be thanking the Road Warriors for defeating Slovenia as it confirms Serbia's spot in the men's basketball tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Canada, who have already confirmed their return to the Olympic Games for the first time since Sydney 2000, have also secured a first top-four finish at the men's World Cup — though they will no doubt have their eyes set on the bigger prize of winning gold.

The USA responded from their stunning loss against Lithuania with a dominant 100-63 victory over Italy. The USA have been an offensive juggernaut at the competition, averaging 101.2 points per game, and received a balanced effort from their squad with all but one player failing to make a basket. They now face a German team who almost pulled off an upset win against the USA during a warmup game in Abu Dhabi prior to the start of the World Cup, though the USA eventually prevailled 99-91.

Die Mannschaft have advanced to the semi-finals at the World Cup for the first time since 2002 (when they won bronze) after surviving a thrilling game against Latvia that came down to the last second.

Germany's NBA sibling duo of Franz and Moritz Wagner led the charge for their squad, combining for 28 points, and will be the main men on the USA's scouting report along with Dennis Schroder, who struggled from the field but hit some key shots late to help secure a 81-79 win over Latvia. The win, coupled with losses from Italy, Lithuania and Slovenia, also means that Germany will have the other Olympic quota spot awarded to the top two European finishers at the World Cup, joining Serbia at Paris 2024 next year.
