Fencing at Paris 2024 Olympics: Preview, full schedule and how to watch live

The world’s best fencers will compete at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 from 27 July to 3 August.

212 athletes will compete across 12 events (six each for men and women) at the historic Grand Palais des Champs-ÉlysĂ©es, commonly known as the Grand Palais, in Paris, France.

Athletes representing Italy and France have won the most medals at the Olympic Games (130 and 123, respectively), and the fencing competition at the Olympic GamesTokyo 2020 produced medallists from 12 different nations.

Fencing stars to watch at Paris 2024 Olympics

Lee Kiefer (USA) is a three-time Olympian who won the U.S. its first-ever gold medal in individual foil at Tokyo 2020. The 30-year-old has picked up seven medals at the World Championships, including gold in the team foil event at the 2019 World Fencing Championships. She won bronze in the individual foil event at the World Championships last year (two-time individual world champion Alice Volpi (ITA) won gold), but still retains her first-place world ranking ahead of Arianna Errigo (ITA), who lost in the world final against Volpi in 2023.

Keep an eye on a pair of Hungarians in the men's épée competition. Gergely Siklósi (HUN) won silver at Tokyo 2020 and gold at the 2019 World Championships and 2023 European Championships in the team competition. He currently holds the No.1 spot in the International Fencing Federation's (FIE) épée world rankings ahead of reigning world champion Måté Tamås Koch (HUN).

Emura Misaki (JPN) is a two-time world champion in the women's sabre competition (2022, 2023) and the top-ranked fencer in the event. The 25-year-old is a favourite to win Olympic gold in Paris, where she will also have the honour of carrying Japan's flag during the Opening Ceremony.
