Equestrians Anush Agarwalla and Shruti Vora will make history at the World Equestrian Championships 2022 as they become the first Indians to compete in dressage at the tournament. The event will run from August 6 to 14.

Anush Agarwalla is a 22-year-old equestrian who was introduced to the sport at the age of three in Kolkata and later moved to Germany to train. He will ride 15-year-old horse Sir Caramello OLD in his world championships debut.

On the other hand, Shruti Vora is a 51-year-old equestrian who began the sport early but left it for 14 years while she was raising a family.

She returned to equestrian in 2010 and has competed at the 2014 Asian Games, where she finished eighth overall. Shruti Vora will be in action with her horse Denightron, a 16-year-old male.

Both equestrians will compete in the Grand Prix of the individual dressage competition, where the top 30 will advance to the Grand Prix special. The medals are awarded at the Grand Prix special stage and the gold-medallist is crowned the individual world champion.

The top 15 in the Grand Prix special progress to the Grand Prix freestyle and the winner is called the freestyle world champion.

The World Equestrian Championships take place every four years.

Germany’s Isabell Werth is the reigning individual champion while Great Britain’s Charlotte Dujardin, a two-time Olympic gold-medallist, will be looking for a second world title after 2014.
